The very easy to use Chamberlain MyQ
One pleasant surprise was the automation of the garage door. Chamberlain certainly made a simple elegant solution. Basically this is a remote door pad that has wifi. You install a motion sensor on the door with sticky tape. You mount the brains to the bottom of your opener and run a couple of wires to the opener. Very very easy. Used Velcro here and seems to work fine. Then you sync with the chamberlain button on the opener and you are set. Ok somewhere in there you sync up the wifi, which was painless, so much so I don’t recall how that was done:) Next you set up the app to notify you when the door opens and closes. You can use iPhone notifications (recommended) or email (not recommended unless you like lots of email). Now even though we use the clicker in the car, as we drive away we get confirmation that the door closed. When you open the door with the app the door opens immediately and a cute graphic shows. When you close there is a delay with light and sound from the installed opener, a very good safety feature. One thing we did learn though is we’ve become comfortable with notification to the point that we hear the beep and don’t look. This resulted recently with the garage door open all night. Need a dashboard for all these Iot things including door status. Then at least we might not have left it open. But that’s not really a chamberlain issue more an industry issue. Off to figure this out.
