Smart Home Sound with Sengled Pulse
The Sengled Pulse light bulbs, smart LED bulbs that double as a Bluetooth speaker, were one of the hottest devices at CES this year and when Sengled had a discount offer in time for Valentine’s day, the bulbs became an AppMyHome impulse buy. The idea was that we could use them to replace the LED bulbs in our bedroom, and be able to enjoy music in the room via Bluetooth.
The starter pack comes with a master and a satellite pair – if you are setting up a larger area, you can attach up to 7 satellite bulbs to the master. The bulbs work as advertised and are really easy to set up. You just screw the bulb into any regular light socket, download the Sengled app, and make the connection via Bluetooth. Pretty soon you can control the light and play music. The Pulse has a really high quality JBL multi-channel stereo speaker so the sound is great.
Our problem is that our bedroom lamps are small nightstand lamps, and are really not appropriate for this size bulb. We have been looking for some lamps that might accomodate the larger bulbs but so far we haven’t found anything. We had some can lights near our bedroom that we could try, but those are on a dimmer and not an option either. We wound up installing them in the only spot in our house that had the can lights without a dimmer – in the dining nook. The speakers work fine but we really don’t need them there, so now they are really just expensive LED lights.
If you are looking for a high-quality set of speakers to expand music to another room in your house, and you have the right set-up, we would definitely recommend the Sengled Pulse. Just think about where you are going to put them before you buy them.
